Saudi Arabia sees 405 COVID-19 cases as recoveries surge and deaths plunge

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia on Wednesday recorded 405 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 343,373, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health. According to the ministry, 18 more died over the past 24 hours from complications caused by COVID-19, taking the total number of virus-related fatalities to 5,235. The ministry also reported 445 new recoveries over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 329,715 with the recovery rate climbing to 96 percent. Of the new cases, Madinah continued to record the highest number of cases with 92 followed by Makkah with 44, and Riyadh with 34. The remaining cases were detected in different cities and governorates across the Kingdom. With the drop in new coronavirus infections, active cases have been falling steadily with 8,423 reported on Wednesday, out of which 804 are critical.
