At least five children were injured in a Houthi militia shelling against residential neighborhoods in the southwestern Yemeni city of Taiz on Wednesday. The attack coincided with renewed clashes erupting north and east of the city. Doctors Without Borders (MSF) condemned the attack and urged all armed groups to commit to international humanitarian laws. “Shelling into civilian areas of Taiz City continued today, with three children under the age of 10 being injured and treated in MSF Supported Al Thawra Hospital, including a young girl just 6 years old. However, the number of injured people might be higher,” MSF said in a tweet. “MSF reiterates its call to all armed groups to abide by International Humanitarian Law and take all necessary precautions to avoid civilian casualties,” it added. Also on Wednesday, Yemeni Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik met with US Ambassador to Yemen Christopher Henzel. Bilateral ties and strategic partnership to counter the Iranian interventions in Yemen and the region, extremism and terrorism was the key focus of the discussions. The UN-led peace process and international efforts were also discussed. Abdulmalik stated that the Yemeni government is keen on dealing constructively with the UN and international efforts to achieve peace. The prime minister also praised the US stance in support of the legitimate government and the Yemeni people. Henzel, for his part, reiterated his countrys support for efforts exerted by UN Special Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths. He urged Yemeni parties to positively engage with the UN-led peace process. On the battleground, Yemen’s pro-government forces, backed by the Arab Coalition, succeeded to liberate and secure key positions north of Al-Khanjar strategic camp in Al-Jawf governorate. Brig. Gen. Heikal Hantif confirmed that army forces alongside the pro-government popular resistance succeeded in liberating and securing strategic positions in Al-Jawf, the national military website September Net reported. Hantif confirmed the death and injury of dozens of militiamen, saying Houthi combat vehicles and tanks were also destroyed. The militias are incurring grave losses in al-Jawf, Hantif confirmed. Pro-government forces also foiled an infiltration attempt by the Houthis into Hays district, south of Hodeidah governorate.
