King Salman discusses bilateral ties, Iranian threats in call with US president

RIYADH — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman held talks over the phone with US President Joe Biden, the Saudi Press Agency reported early Friday. The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques congratulated Biden on the assumption of office as president of the United States. King Salman stressed during the call the depth of the relationship between the two countries and underlined the need to strengthen the partnership in order to serve the interests of both countries as well as to achieve security and stability in the region and the world. Both leaders reviewed the most important issues in the region and developments of mutual interest. The Iranian behavior in the region, its destabilizing activities, and its support for terrorist groups were also discussed. In this regard, King Salman thanked Biden for the US commitment to helping Saudi Arabia defend itself against such threats and for the assurance that Iran would not be allowed to possess nuclear weapons. The US president commended Saudi Arabia’s support for the United Nations" efforts to reach a ceasefire in Yemen while the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques affirmed the Kingdom"s keenness for a comprehensive political solution in Yemen and its endeavors to achieve security and development for the Yemeni people.
