Lebanon’s Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai hoped on Sunday that the Lebanese officials would listen to the demands of the people and not their personal interests. He also condemned every official who brought Lebanon into this tragic situation. “Bkirki never sided with an authority or party that obstructs the constitution or favors its personal interests over that of its people,” he said in his sermon during the Palm Sunday mass. Rai said he was hoping that a competent government for the people and the nation would soon be formed, calling on the President and Prime Minister to join efforts and meet their responsibilities. In the same context, Beirut Greek Orthodox Archbishop, Elias Audi, criticized on Sunday some parties for hindering the government formation. “It is humiliating that a cabinet formation process is hindered because each side wants to advance the shares and interests of his party while millions of people continue to suffer." Addressing politicians, he said: “Once again, we address your consciences. You should place your affiliations and profits aside and form a government that makes the necessary reforms and save what is left from Lebanon.”
