RIYADH — Coronavirus cases in Saudi Arabia remained over the 900-mark for the second consecutive day, with 904 new infections recorded on Friday, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health. Recently, the number of new cases has surged in the Kingdom after dropping to as low as 82 on Jan. 3, 2021. The health ministry announced nine more deaths from complications caused by COVID-19 over the past 24 hours. This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 396,758 and the virus-related fatalities to 6,737. The ministry also reported 540 recoveries over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 382,198. The Riyadh region recorded the highest number of new cases with 401 followed by the Makkah region with 169 and the Eastern region with 143 infections. The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with just two of them reporting less than 10 infections. According to the ministry, there were 7,823 active cases and 898 of them were in critical condition.
