Critical COVID cases cross 900 as Saudi Arabia reports 878 new infections

RIYADH — Coronavirus cases in Saudi Arabia remained near the 900-mark for the third consecutive day, with 878 new infections recorded on Saturday, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health. Recently, the number of new cases has surged in the Kingdom after dropping to as low as 82 on Jan. 3, 2021. The Health Ministry announced 10 more deaths from complications caused by COVID-19 over the past 24 hours. The daily death toll hit double digit after a long time. This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 397,636 and the virus-related fatalities to 6,747. The ministry also reported 578 recoveries over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 382,776. The Riyadh region recorded the highest number of new cases with 410 followed by the Makkah region with 149 and the Eastern region with 141 infections. The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with just four of them reporting less than 10 infections. According to the ministry, there were 8, 113 active cases and 914 of them were in critical condition.
