JEDDAH — The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah thwarted two attempts to smuggle cocaine weighing more than 1.6 into Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The seized cocaine was hidden in the intestines of a man and a woman who arrived at the airport. The authority said that during the routine inspection of passengers arriving in the Kingdom, a customs inspector suspected one of the passengers, she was immediately taken for an X-ray scan, which led to the discovery of 60 small-sized capsules of cocaine weighing 683.5 grams hidden in her intestines. The authority added that customs officials foiled a similar attempt in which a male passenger was involved who hid 80 capsules of cocaine weighing (918.5) grams inside his intestines. The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority pointed out that the attempts to smuggle drugs hidden inside intestines are among the most prominent methods used by smugglers to try to bring in drugs such as heroin and cocaine, but the authority is making all efforts to thwart such efforts for the security and protection of society.
