New COVID-19 cases drop for 4th straight day; recoveries steady

New COVID-19 cases in Saudi Arabia remained below the 1,000-mark on Sunday for the fourth consecutive day, with 731 new infections recorded over the past 24 months. On Thursday, the Ministry of Health recorded less than 1,000 new coronavirus cases for the first time in two months. According to the ministry, 14 more people died due to complications caused by the virus over the past 24 hours. This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 533,516 and the virus-related fatalities to 8,334. According to the ministry, a total of 620 people recovered over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 514,982. The Makkah region reported the highest number of new cases with 151, followed by the Eastern region with 132, the Riyadh region with 129, and the Jazan region with 67 infections. The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with three of them reporting less than 10 infections. According to the ministry, there were 10,200 active cases and 1,405 of them were in critical condition. The ministry on Thursday announced that it has so far administered over 29 million coronavirus vaccines doses through more than 687 vaccination centers.
