Saudi Arabia reiterated on Tuesday its firm and historic stance that supports peace, stability and unity in Afghanistan. Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the cabinet meeting that was held virtually from Neom amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The government stressed the Kingdom’s stance that it had expressed at the extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, during which it had underscored the need to reach a comprehensive political settlement in Afghanistan. It had also called on the international community to work together and speed up urgent humanitarian work and support efforts to achieve development and stability to establish security and prosperity in Afghanistan. The government reviewed the various talks that were held between Saudi Arabia and several countries in recent days that were aimed at bolstering cooperation in all fields and coordination over regional and international issues and supporting friends and brothers as they confront various challenges. King Salman briefed the ministers on the telephone talks he held with Tunisian President Kais Saied, during which he underlined Riyadh’s keenness on the North African security and stability. The ministers also reviewed preparations for the resumption of the academic year with in-person schooling set to return. The arrangements will ensure the safety of faculty and staff amid the pandemic. On the pandemic, the cabinet stated that the Kingdom has succeeded in limiting the impact of the outbreak on all aspects of life. Vaccines will continue to administered, it said, noting the remarked increase in activity in several economic sectors and the increased operational capacity at the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the return of tourists from abroad.
