The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZTCA) has managed to thwart four attempts to smuggle 1,121,722 Captagon pills, found hidden in consignments received to the Kingdom via different land, air, and sea customs border crossings. The authority explained that the first smuggling attempt was at the customs of King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, where 112,810 Captagon pills were found hidden in a shipment consisting of household kneaders that arrived in the Kingdom through the airport. The seizures were hidden under the container in which the dough is placed. Another attempt to smuggle 80,000 Captagon pills was foiled after finding them hidden in a postal parcel containing water purification filters. The authority added that Duba Port customs had thwarted an attempt to smuggle 917,636 Captagon pills, while King Fahd Causeway Customs thwarted another attempt to smuggle 11,276 pills, which were hidden in one of the vehicles coming to the Kingdom through the port. 3 attempts to smuggle a huge and varied amount of liquor, amounting to (66,312) bottles was thwarted last week by the authority in Jeddah Islamic Port and Al-Bat"haa border crossing. The authority confirmed on doing its utmost to prevent and thwart any smuggling attempt, stressing that it continues to confiscate and tighten customs control over all imports and continues to combat smuggling in all its forms. The ZATCA called on everyone to communicate with it to report any information related to smuggling crimes through the Security Reports Center (1910), as the center receives security reports in complete secrecy, with a financial reward given to those who report if the reporting information is correct. The Authority stressed its determination to tighten customs control over the Kingdom’s imports and is steadfastly standing against any attempts by smugglers, calling on citizens and residents to contribute to the fight against smuggling to protect society and the economy. — SPA
