PARIS, Oct 6 (Reuters) - Bank of France Governor Francois Villeroy de Galhau will be renewed for a second term as the head of the French central bank, President Emmanuel Macron’s office said on Wednesday. “The President of the Republic is considering, following a proposal from the Prime Minister, to name Francois Villeroy de Galhau as Bank of France Governor,” the statement said. In his role as governor, Villeroy also sits on the governing council of the European Central Bank, where he has firmly supported the ECB’s exceptional asset purchases to help stabilise the euro zone economy through the COVID-19 pandemic. Villeroy, 62, took the helm of the Bank of France in 2015 after a career as a senior finance ministry official and a finance executive, including as chief operating officer of French banking group BNP Paribas.
