FII discusses redesigning tourism and laying foundations for future success

The plenary of "Redesigning Tourism" within the Fifth Future Investment Initiatives (FII5) highlighted the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on the travel and tourism sectors as well as the important measures taken by the world"s leaders to deal with the crisis. It stressed that much remains to be done in order to enable societies, companies and destinations that depend on tourism and travel to fully recover from the implications of the pandemic. During the session, Princess Haifa Bint Mohammed, assistant minister of tourism for executive and strategic affairs and member of the board of directors of the Tourism Development Fund, affirmed that the COVID-19 pandemic affects harshly the tourism sector, adding that the statistics show that 62 million jobs were lost during the pandemic. The participants hailed the Kingdom"s efforts in the past two years in dealing with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, stressing the importance of focusing on strengthening coordination and cooperation and moving forward in the global tourism sector in order to overcome the implications of the pandemic in order to consolidate the international economy. — SPA
