Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf, secretary general of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), met here Wednesday US Envoy to Yemen Tim Lenderking. During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the regional and international efforts to reach a political solution regarding the Yemeni crisis. The GCC Secretary General affirmed the importance of exerting pressure on the Houthi militias by the international community to stop Houthi terrorism and to engage seriously in the peace process to resolve the Yemeni crisis in accordance with the three references. The references include the Gulf initiative and its executive mechanism, the outcomes of the Yemeni national dialogue and Security Council resolution No. 2216. He stressed the importance of the United States" role and the US envoy"s efforts to end the Yemeni crisis as well as its humanitarian and development assistance for the brotherly Yemeni people. Dr. Al-Hajraf also expressed his strong condemnation of the continued targeting of civilians and civilian objects in Saudi Arabia, with missiles and drones, as well as the cowardly terrorist attack that targeted Abu Dhabi International Airport on Monday, Jan. 17, 2022. He added that these attacks represent a terrorist act and a flagrant violation of international law as well as a threat to the security and stability in the region. He asserted that the Houthi militias must be held accountable in accordance with the international and humanitarian law. Dr. Al-Hajraf also received here Wednesday Chinese Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Chen Weiqing. During the meeting, the GCC chief affirmed the importance of consolidating and deepening cooperation fields between the two sides in order to serve mutual interests.
