King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) through videoconference Sunday signed a cooperation agreement with the World Health Organization (WHO) to enhance basic nutritional intervention in service of Yemeni children"s health in a bid to reduce mortality rates in a sustainable way according to the humanitarian response plan for Yemen, at a total value of about $8 million. Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of KSrelief Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah and WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Dr. Ahmed Al-Mandhari signed the agreement, under which children healthcare will be enhanced to limit death rates among children under the age of five through enhancing the quality of basic services and nutritional intervention. The deal would also include preventive and life-saving procedures, providing basic medical services and medical and non-medical equipment and supplies, efficient medical employees and sessions for building capabilities, rehabilitating residency wards of pediatrics units in selected facilities to ensure their quality and safety. It would also provide basic medical equipment for reviving critical cases, modernizing the performance of employees in cooperation with the Yemeni Ministry of Health and Population in a way that ensures having 192 medical employees trained in the healthcare sector for acute malnutrition with medical complications and practices of infants" nutrition and little children. Under the agreement, acute malnutrition cases with medical complications will be treated at the ICU of children wards, training 32 employees out of 192 in these services, where the agreement is expected to benefit 3.198 million individuals directly and 2.697 million individuals indirectly. Dr. Al Rabeeah expressed happiness for KSrelief"s signing of a second agreement within a week with WHO regional office to serve Yemeni children under the age of five, noting that this project signed today is vital for enhancing basic nutritional interventions of children"s healthcare and benefiting millions of children, with a total value of about $8 million. Dr. Al-Mandhari thanked KSrelief for its continuous support and solidarity with WHO regional office in its endeavors to serve humanity and alleviate the suffering of people and saving lives, adding that KSrelief was the best supporter for the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office, mainly in Yemen through supporting various programs, where in 2020 and 2021 WHO received a total of $23 million from the center. This agreement is part of humanitarian and relief projects implemented by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by KSrelief, in partnership with WHO to develop the Yemeni health sector and improve medical services presented to all categories of the society. In Riyadh, on Sunday, Dr. Al Rabeeah met with French Ambassador to Yemen Jean-Marie Safa. During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues relating to humanitarian and relief affairs in Yemen as well as means of cooperation in this regard.
