The Shoura Council Deputy Speaker Dr. Mishal Bin Fahm Al-Sulami, at the council’s headquarters in Riyadh Wednesday, received the head of the United States Congress’s delegation Chris Stewart, Congresswoman Lisa McClain and Congressman Guy Reschenthaler, and an accompanying delegation, as part of their current visit to Saudi Arabia. At the outset of the meeting, Dr. Al-Sulami stressed the historical and deep-rooted relations between Saudi Arabia and the US, referring to the importance of these exchanged parliamentary visits between the Shoura Council and Congress to review points of view on several regional and international issues and means of cooperation between the two sides. The deputy speaker noted that Saudi Arabia is exerting big efforts to realize peace, security and stability in the region, the latest of which was announcing a comprehensive ceasefire in Yemen, supporting the ceasefire truce in Yemen, and offering relief, development and humanitarian aid to the brotherly Yemeni people. This aid is offered through the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) and King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), which exceeded $17 billion. He pointed out that the Saudi society is witnessing a comprehensive developmental renaissance and unprecedented mega projects in various fields in realization of the Kingdom Vision 2030. This is in addition to enacting new laws and modernizing others, including what the Crown Prince has announced, such as personal status bylaw, civil transactions bylaw, evidentiary bylaw, empowering women to contribute to development, improving the quality of life of citizens and combating all forms of corruption. For his part, the head of the US Congress’s delegation referred to the solid Saudi-US relations, praising what Saudi Arabia is witnessing of development at all levels, and noting that the US-Saudi relations represent great importance to the United States. Meanwhile, McClain expressed her happiness for visiting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and meeting with the Crown Prince, and being acquainted with the cultural, heritage and historical aspects of Saudi Arabia, while stressing the importance of exchanging parliamentary visits between the two institutions. The meeting addressed issues of mutual interest at the parliamentary level between the Shoura Council and Congress and means to enhance cooperation.
