The Saudi Council of Universities’ Affairs approved the establishment of the College of Arts at King Saud University in Riyadh. The council also endorsed the transfer of the Department of Art Education to the new faculty and changing the department’s name to Department of Design. The college includes the following departments: the Department of Performing Arts, which teaches topics such as theater, cinema, and music. The Department of Visual Arts, which teaches topics such as printing, drawing, sculpture, and calligraphy. And the Department of Design, which teaches topics such as kinetic graphic design, textiles, fashion, and jewelry design. King Saud University President Dr. Badran Al-Omar thanked Minister of Education Dr. Hamad Al-Sheikh, and the Council of Universities’ Affairs on the occasion of the approval of the establishment of the College of Arts. “This represents a qualitative leap in teaching technical disciplines that serve the country, as well as develop career opportunities, and encourage creativity and excellence,” he said.
