Saudi Arabia welcomed the lasting peace agreement reached between the government of Ethiopia and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) to end conflict and fighting between the two sides. The government and TPLF reaffirmed their aspiration for a future of consensus and unity and work on developing economic recovery. The Ethiopian peace talks that started in Pretoria, South Africa, on Oct. 25, resulted in concluding cessation of hostilities agreement between the two parties, paving the way for the restoration of peace, security and stability in the Tigray region. In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom’s appreciation of the agreement’s emphasis on the importance of allowing relief and humanitarian organizations to enter conflict zones to provide relief and humanitarian assistance and protect workers in the field of relief and humanitarian work. The ministry appreciated the role played by South Africa in hosting the talks between the parties to the conflict for a period of ten days, and its contribution to encouraging them to move forward and announce the peace agreement. The Kingdom also noted the efforts of the African Union in supporting these talks and ending the conflict in Ethiopia.
