Lagos, Nigeria, Ramadan 13, 1434, Jul 22, 2013, SPA - A police superintendent says Nigerian officers "safely and effectively" rescued a kidnapped Briton and two Chinese businessmen. Chief Superintendent Frank Mba said the Briton working for an oil services company had arrived on a flight from Amsterdam last week and was driving away from the airport when gunmen opened fire. They wounded his driver and abducted the foreigner. He said the Chinese were rescued when police and intelligence operatives lured the kidnappers with the promise of a ransom, according to a report of the Associated Press. Mba said Monday that both rescues took place at the weekend in Lagos, Nigeria's commercial center. He vowed police would contain a surge in kidnappings saying "We are going to make it too hot and too uncomfortable for kidnappers to operate." --SPA 14:37 LOCAL TIME 11:37 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/1131382
