Voters in Mali Go to Polls to Elect A President

Bamako, Ramadan 19, 1434, Jul 28, 2013, SPA - Voters in Mali went to the polls Sunday to elect a president. Twenty-seven candidates are running for a five-year term, including three former prime ministers and one woman, according to a report of DPA. Interim President Dioncounda Traore, who as a member of the transitional government is excluded from the race, said in a message to Malians that the vote was a "historic" event. Results were expected to be released Friday. The frontrunners in the race are former prime ministers Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, Soumana Sacko and Cheick Modibo Diarra as well as Soumaila Cisse, another political veteran.
