Rio de Janeiro, Jumada I 22, 1436, Mar 13, 2015, SPA -- Thousands of leftist activists demonstrated Friday across Brazil in support of the government of Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff and ahead of anti-government protests scheduled for Sunday, dpa reported. Wearing red T-shirts and waving flags also in the colour of the leftist ruling Workers' Party (PT), demonstrators shouted their support for Rousseff. Rousseff was re-elected in October and started her second four-year mandate in January. In recent weeks, however, she has been shaken by a corruption scandal involving state-controlled oil giant Petrobras. "We will not accept a coup against Dilma," demonstrators warned. They accused the opposition of disrespecting election results. However, at the same time they spoke up for Rousseff, many of the trade-union activists, peasants and students who demonstrated disagreed with her recent move to reduce public spending. Rousseff is seeking to balance the government's accounts, rein in inflation and give a boost to Brazil's stagnating economy. -- SPA 23:15 LOCAL TIME 20:15 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/1338214
