NEW DELHI, Rajab 9, 1432, Jun 11, 2011, SPA - Suspected Maoist rebels have attacked policemen in central India, sparking a gun battle that killed three officers and five rebels. Police Deputy Inspector General Vivekanand says the insurgents blasted nearby roads before the attack to prevent police reinforcements from reaching the area in southern Chattisgargh state. Vivekanand says the officers were searching Saturday for rebels after two deadly attacks Friday and Thursday. The militants allegedly blew up an anti-landmine vehicle and killed 10 security personnel Friday and sprayed a police camp with bullets that killed five officers Thursday. Attacks over the past month have killed 35 officers. The rebels fight in several Indian states demanding more land for farmers and jobs for the poor, according to a report of the Associated Press. --SPA 11:41 LOCAL TIME 08:41 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/901513
