Kabul, Jumada Al-Awwal 02, 1432, April 06, 2011, SPA -- Seven suspected militants were killed by Afghan and foreign soldiers as they attacked a NATO base in eastern Afghanistan, officials said Wednesday. The militants used small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades in the attack on an airport on the eastern outskirts of Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province, said Major Tim James, spokesman for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). The assault took place shortly before midnight Tuesday and caused no casualties among Afghan or ISAF forces, he said. "Police forces were immediately deployed to the area after the attack occurred to surround the militants," said Ali Shah Paktiawal, the provincial police chief. "All seven bodies are now in the hospital." Both officials said the Afghan and ISAF forces seized weapons from the attackers, the German Press Agency "DPA" reported. --SPA 13:19 LOCAL TIME 10:19 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/881018
