Washington, June 19, 2010, SPA -- The Afghan government and its international supporters are “making progress” in stabilizing the Central Asian country, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Friday. “We think that we’re making progress, we know how hard it is,” Clinton said at a news conference with visiting Foreign Minister Lene Espersen of Denmark, which contributes soldiers to NATO in Afghanistan. “The Afghan military and police are improving.” “We are looking to see more results from some governmental reforms … but it is just not true that we haven’t seen positive accomplishments,” Clinton told reporters. “There’s a lot of positive indicators,” she said, citing advances in education, healthcare, government abilities, agricultural output, and economic growth. Clinton confirmed she would travel to Kabul on July 20 to attend a conference aimed at following up on the international commitments to Afghanistan made at a London summit in January. --SPA 11:08 LOCAL TIME 08:08 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/793888
