Washington, Jumada II 4, 1433, Apr 25, 2012, SPA - The United States is preparing for the potential failure of U.N.-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan’s plan to end the violence in Syria and will take additional steps against the Syrian government if the efforts fail, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Tuesday. Hillary Clinton condemned reports that U.N. cease-fire monitors have been unable to do their job properly and that violence is continuing. She said the United States and its allies are committed to the Annan plan and want it to succeed, but there is no faith that the regime of President Bashar al-Assad will comply. Anticipating failure, Hillary Clinton said work was underway to find additional U.S. sanctions to further punish and isolate the Al-Assad regime. --SPA 12:05 LOCAL TIME 09:05 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/992149
