Moscow, Shawwal 05, 1431/Sept 14, 2010, SPA -- The interim government of Kyrgyzstan has invited Russia to keep its military bases in the Central Asian country for another 49 years, dpa cited a media report as saying Tuesday. In exchange for the offer, Bishkek reportedly wanted weapons, rather than money from Moscow. Kyrgyz Defence Minister Abibilla Kudaiberdiev made the proposal in negotiations with his Russian counterpart Anatoly Serdyukov in Moscow on Monday, Russia's Kommersant newspaper said. Kudaiberdiev also reportedly proposed that Moscow merge its existing five military bases into one facility. No agreements were concluded Monday, according to the report. The situation in the run-up to parliamentary elections on October 10 in the country that saw bloody clashes between Kyrgyz and Uzbeks in June remains extremely tense. The interim government in Bishkek, which has been attempting to stabilise the country, was pushing for an agreement whilst Moscow was still hesitant, the report said. --SPA 21:09 LOCAL TIME 18:09 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/817181
