Colombo, Sri Lanka, February 16, 2010, SPA -- Two children died in an explosion in Sri Lanka as they played with an object Police said they believe may have been an unexploded grenade. Seven other children were injured in the Monday blast in the northern Jaffna region, the BBC reported. The BBC report quoted police as saying they suspect the children were playing with an unexploded grenade they found by a roadside, which went off when tossed by them. Both the dead children were boys, ages 9 and 10. Of those injured, five were girls.
