Washington, April 05, 2010, SPA -- The United States condemned a coordinated bomb attack today on its consulate in the north-west Pakistani city of Peshawar, according to dpa. All personnel of the consulate were accounted for, but the US offered its condolences to seven Pakistani police and civilians who were killed in three separate explosions outside the compound. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. "We condemn this terrorist attack," said State Department spokesman PJ Crowley. "We are outraged and deeply saddened by the assault." Crowley said the attack was part of a "wave of violence" by extremists in Pakistan and said the US was working closely with Pakistani officials to "bring the murderers to justice." Earlier Monday, 40 people died and about 80 were injured when a suicide bomb ripped through a political rally of the ruling party in the region. The Pakistani military has waged a campaign since last spring against Taliban militants in the North-West Frontier Province. --SPA 22:02 LOCAL TIME 19:02 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/766429
