London/Port-of-Spain, Nov 28, SPA --Prime Minister Gordon Brown today announced that Britain would host and internationalconference on January 28 on the withdrawal of international troopsfrom Afghanistan, according to dpa. Brown said Afghan President Hamid Karzai would be given benchmarksfor boosting the capacity of his country"s army and police andimproving local government to pave the way for a withdrawal of theNATO-led International Security Assistance Force. Brown made the announcement with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moonon the sidelines of the Commonwealth Summit being held in Trinidadand Tobago.
