Athens, May 31, 2010, SPA -- Riot police clashed with hundreds of Greeks protesting outside the Israeli embassy in Athens today, just as the government cancelled a joint air force exercise with Israel following an attack on foreign activists by Israel's military, according to dpa. More than 2,000 demonstrations attempted to break through a police barrier to reach the embassy, located in central Athens, hurling rocks and bottles. Police retaliated by spraying tear gas towards the crowd. One person was reported injured. Earlier, Athens said a joint air force exercise with Israel has been cancelled after Israeli naval commandos stormed a flotilla of ships carrying 10,000 tons aid and hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists to the blockaded Gaza Strip. At least nine passengers were killed and dozens more injured in the raid that provoked international outrage and a diplomatic crisis. More than 33 Greek activists, doctors and journalists sailing on the two Greek ships. No one on board the Greek vessels were killed or injured. --SPA 22:05 LOCAL TIME 19:05 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/787368
