SRINAGAR, India, August 01, SPA -- Suspected rebels killed an Indian policeman and wounded two paramilitary troops in separate shootings Saturday in Indian Kashmir's main city. The first attack occurred in Lal Chowk, the main businessdistrict in Indian Kashmir's biggest city of Srinagar, whenattackers opened fire on paramilitary soldiers on patroland critically wounded two, said Prabhakar Tripathi, aspokesman for the Central Reserve Police Force. Assailants also fatally shot a policeman on patrol atBatmaloo, an area about a mile (two kilometers) fromLalchowk, he was quoted as saying by The Associated Press.
