ARUSHA, Tanzania, December 18, SPA -- A U.N. court has convicted theorganizer of the 1994 Rwandan genocide that claimed morethan 500,000 lives and sentenced him to life in prison. The court said that Theoneste Bagosora distributed weaponsand directed Hutu soldiers and the notorious Interahamwemilitia to kill Tutsis and moderate Hutus. Judge Erik Mosessaid Thursday that Bagosora was guilty of genocide andcrimes against humanity, according to a report of Associated Press. The massacres took place in 1994 after the Rwandanpresident's plane was mysteriously shot down over Kigali ashe returned home from peace talks with Tutsi-led rebels. The Tanzania-based International Criminal Tribunal forRwanda was set up by the U.N. in 1997 to try thoseresponsible for the killing.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/617385
