Wave of Baghdad blasts kill at least 58 people

BAGHDAD, August 19, SPA -- Iraqi police and medical officials say that a series of explosions have struck Baghdad, killing atleast 58 people and wounding nearly 300 others. The attacks in the Iraqi capital started shortly after 10a.m. on Wednesday, striking first near the financeministry in northern Baghdad and then minutes later, nearthe foreign ministry next to the heavily fortified GreenZone. The officials say the deadliest blast was a car bombexplosion near the foreign ministry, which killed dozensand wounded hundreds. The officials say the toll isexpected to climb. They say five other explosions, mostly from car bombs,tore through Baghdad, killing at least eight people andwounding dozens more, the Associated Press reported.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/693834
