Ramallah, July 08, SPA --The Palestinian government today urged theUnited States not to allow Israel to stall in implementinginternational demands for a complete settlement freeze, according to dpa. The government of Acting Prime Minister Salam Fayyad said in astatement received by the German Press Agency dpa following itsweekly cabinet meeting in Ramallah that "the US administration shouldconclude its talks with the Israeli government and not allow it towaste more time to elude international demands to halt all settlementactivities, including the so-called natural growth." The statement came after Israeli press reports Wednesday that theUS may allow Israel to complete building 2,500 new housing units inWest Bank settlements, construction of which has already begun. The West Bank-based administration of Palestinian PresidentMahmoud Abbas strongly opposes the continuation of any constructionin the settlements, illegal under international law, and says it willnot resume negotiations with Israel before it freezes all settlementactivities. The Palestinian government urged the US to present what itdescribed as a "balanced and comprehensive" plan to resolve thedecades-old Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on pertinentinternational resolutions. It said the plan should have a timetable for the conclusion of thenegotiations on all permanent status issues that included borders,Jerusalem, refugees, settlements, security and water.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/682627
