CAIRO, Egypt, June 30, SPA -- Egypt is to reopen the Rafah bordercrossing with the Hamas-run Gaza Strip for two days toallow hundreds of stranded on both sides to cross, aPalestinian diplomat in Cairo said on Monday. According to Nabil Amr, the diplomat, the opening willbegin on Tuesday. All Palestinians who need medicaltreatment would be allowed into Egypt, as well as thosewith residency permits in Egypt or elsewhere, Amr toldreporters in Cairo. Palestinians returning from abroad will also be allowedinto Gaza from Egypt, he said , adding that the opening ofthe border was «humanitarian» decision in «response toappeals from Palestinians stuck» because of borderclosures. The move also followed talks on Sunday between PalestinianPresident Mahmoud Abbas and Egypt's chief of intelligenceOmar Suleiman on the Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts, the Associated Press reported.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/569766
