Vienna, September 29, SPA -- Vandals ripped up some 90 Muslim graves in anAustrian cemetery and defaced the headstones with black spray paint,Police said Monday, DPA reported. The Islamic community in Linz, the nearest major city, said theimages left by the assailants included Jewish symbols, but that itsuspected the culprits were neo-Nazis, not Jews, Austria's APA newsAgency reported. "We are deeply shocked, " the Islamic community said in aStatement. Last week, a far-right group's sticker was found at thecemetery's entrance. Police launched an investigation into the desecrations, whichapparently happened over the weekend. There were no immediatesuspects. The Muslim grave sites are part of the town cemetery in Traun,outside Linz. The first Muslims were buried there in 2002. Muslims make up more than 4 per cent of Austria's 8.3 millionpeople, or about 400,000 people. Most have Turkish or Bosnian roots.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/594137
