SHARM EL-SHEIK, Egypt, June 24, SPA -- Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said Tuesday that his country was trying to secure the releaseof a captive Israeli soldier Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and President Mubarak held talks at the Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheik, in a meeting that came on thesixth day of an Egyptian-mediated truce between Israel andHamas, the Associated Press reported. «We shall discuss the question of Gilad Schalit,» saidMubarak, speaking to reporters through an interpreter as heand Olmert went into a closed-door meeting. «We are makingefforts for his release.» Olmert, who also said they would talk about Schalit, addedthat there were «many issues» on the agenda, includingbilateral matters. In exchange for Schalit, Hamas wants Israel to release 450prisoners it is holding. The Egyptian-brokered truce started last Thursday, withthe immediate aim to end the fighting that has killed sevenIsraelis and more than 400 Palestinians.
