Pakistan's new premier takes oath on Monday

ISLAMABAD, MARCH 22, SPA -- The next Prime Minister of Pakistan will take oath of office on March 25, officials said. The new premier will be elected by the National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament) on Monday (March 24). President Pervez Musharraf will administer oath to the next prime minister at a ceremony to be held at the presidential palace. Officials said that the new premier would belong to assassinated Benazir Bhutto's Pakistan People s Party (PPP). However, he would be supported by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League (PML). Meanwhile, caretaker Prime Minister Muhammadmian Soomro, who will vacate the office for the next premier, was given a farewell guard of honor at the Prime Minister's House Saturday.
