CHISINAU, Moldova, March 19, SPA -- Moldova's Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev unexpectedly resigned Wednesday in a leadershipshake-up he said was for the «well-being» of the country. His departure triggers the resignation of his government. Tarlev said in a statement he was stepping down to allow anew team to take over but did not elaborate. «People are tired of seeing the same people every day inthe same positions,» Moldova's President Vladimir Voronin,a close ally of Tarlev, was quoted as saying by Russiannews agency Interfax. Tarlev, 44, a Communist, has been the prime minister ofMoldova since 2001 and the longest-serving sinceindependence in 1991. Parliamentary elections are scheduledfor 2009. Voronin will nominate a new prime minister. He has saidthat the new government must push for European integrationand resolve a crisis with separatists in eastern Moldova.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/538045
