Roadside blast kills 1 police officer in Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan, December 24, SPA -- A roadside blast hit a police vehicle in eastern Afghanistan, killing one officer and wounding three others, an official said Monday. The explosion happened in the Wata Pur district of Kunarprovince on Sunday, said the provincial police chief, AbdulJalal Jalal. Also Sunday, police clashed with Taliban militants in theGelan district of central Ghazni province, killing a localinsurgent leader and two of his bodyguards, said KhanMohammad, Ghazni's police chief. There were no casualties among Afghan security forces,Mohammad said. This year has been Afghanistan's most violent since the2001 U.S.-led invasion drove the Taliban from power.
