MOSCOW, April 09, SPA -- Russian President-elect Dmitry Medvedev said Wednesday that no country should try to resolveinternational disputes outside of the United Nations. Medvedev spoke as he met with U.N. Secretary General BanKi-moon, who was on his first visit to Russia as head ofthe world body. The incoming president also said there was no crisis inthe U.N. operations. «We think all this talk of a crisis at the UnitedNations, of some sort of problems, they have no basis; onthe contrary, the United Nations should do what it can tosupport and develop this universal space for coordinating(nations') interests,» he was quoted as saying by the Associated Press. In interviews before his visit, Ban said he would alsodiscuss the situation in Sudan, Afghanistan and Cyprusduring his visit. «I will also seek the Russian Federation's views onimproving the effectiveness of the United Nations as we arefacing a daunting array of challenges,» he was quoted bythe ITAR-Tass news agency as saying.
