Typhoon death toll at 155 in Philippines; 700 still missing

MANILA, Philippines, June 22, SPA -- The Philippine Red Cross saysthe death toll from Typhoon Fengshen has risen to at least155, with the storm submerging entire communities intorrential downpours and setting off landslides. The number doesn't include the more than 740 passengersand crew who were aboard a passenger ferry that ran agroundand capsized Saturday. Their fate was unclear, with onlyfour survivors found so far, the Associated Press reported. Sen. Richard Gordon, head of the national Red Cross, saysthe figure of 155 dead is based on field reports from hisstaff, who also are helping relatives of ferry passengerswith stress debriefing.
