The main humanitarian affairs office at the United Nations told Saudi Press Agency (SPA) that humanitarian coordinator John Holmes will brief the UN Security Council Wednesday on the situation in Gaza as part of the council’s monthly briefings on the Middle East. “We’ve been following the situation to some extent up closely…we have been concerned about the power situation for quite some time, " Stephanie Bunker from Holmes’ office told SPA. Bunker told SPA that Holmes’ office received an update yesterday that UNWRA vehicles are “not able to run” due to the fuel shortage. Bunker added that UNWRA “takes care of a lot of the needs in the Gaza Strip” and have not received petrol for about two weeks. Bunker said Holmes’ office is concerned about the water, sanitation, and waste removal in the Gaza Strip. She added “some professionals are forced to walk to their work” because of the “very serious shortages.” Asked by SPA who was ultimately responsible, Bunker responded, “the curbs on the entry of fuel into Gaza is ultimately responsible for this situation and the facts on the ground speak for themselves.”--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/548898
