The First Secretary of Saudi delegation to the United Nations further said that "The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reiterates that, in view of the enormity of what is happening in Syria of war against civilians, grave humanitarian violations, demographic changing and sectarian cleansing, and given the failure of the Security Council to take the necessary steps to protect civilians in all parts of the Syrian territories, and the failure to adopt measures necessary for the accountability of all violators of humanitarian crimes in Syria, there is an urgent necessity that the General Assembly holds an emergency special session to assume responsibility for the protection of peace and security in the Syrian Arab Republic, and prevent any further deterioration of the current tragic situation." She added that the "Kingdom reaffirms again that the sustainable solution to the Syrian crisis lies in the resumption of official political negotiations on the political transition process, according to the statement of Geneva 1 and United Nations Security Council resolution 2254, referring to the welcoming of the Kingdom's delegation of the adoption of the resolution under consideration today, wishing that the resolution's adoption and the speed of its implementation would be a deterrent to contribute to putting an end to violations of the Syrian regime, an immediate cessation of all hostilities and the immediate lifting off the siege off all Syrian cities and regions, unconditionally, and that puts an end to the presence of Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces in Syria and Hezbollah, the sectarian militias and to hold them all responsible for their criminal acts in Syria." --SPA 13:56 LOCAL TIME 10:56 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w296241
