New York, March 08 , SPA -- Kai Eide, a Norwegian diplomat, was appointedFriday to head the UN mission in Afghanistan. According to DPA, Eide replaces Tom Koenigs of Germany, who stepped down in Decemberafter almost two years on the job. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon informed the UN Security Councilby letter of the appointment, which took effect immediately.
