MOGADISHU, Somalia, October 29, SPA -- Embattled Somali Prime Minister Ali Mohamed Gedi submitted a letter of resignation to the president on Monday, apparently losing a long-brewing power struggle. Officials said Gedi submitted his letter to PresidentAbdullahi Yusuf in the southern city of Baidoa, where hewas later to address lawmakers in parliament. It was not immediately clear if Yusuf had officiallyaccepted the resignation, the Associated Press reported. «Prime Minister Ali Mohamed Gedi has tendered hisresignation,» said Salad Ali Geele, deputy defenseminister and a close friend of the prime minister.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/494527
