ISLAMABAD, DECEMBER 28, SPA -- Pakistan's Caretaker Prime Minister Mohammedmian Soomro announced Friday that there was no change in the schedule to hold parliamentary elections on January 8 next year. A special federal cabinet meeting was held to ponder over the situation arising out of Thursday's assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Soomro told the reporters after the cabinet meeting that so far there was no decision to postpone the elections. He said he would write letters to the major political players to chalk out a strategy about the upcoming polls. Any decision about the elections would be taken after consultation with them so that it was collective, he said. The prime minister said law and order would be maintained and added that the trouble makers were serving the interest of the enemies of Pakistan. Soomro said a judicial inquiry has been ordered into the assassination. He said another team of the interior ministry would also probe the incident.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/512710
