ISLAMABAD, MAR 20, SPA -- President General Pervez Musharraf says there is no such situation in Pakistan to impose a state of emergency and assures that the next parliamentary elections will be held according to schedule after present parliament completes its term by the end of the current year. In an interview with private satellite TV, "Geo," telecast Monday night, the President said the army would not be used as there is no such situation. "I am a strong believer in freedom of press, freedom of speech and essence of democracy," Musharraf said adding that the media has the responsibilities to use the press freedom with due care and responsibility. He said the media should not misuse the freedom of press and asked them to present their reports with responsibility. The President said more than 50 television channels have been working in the private sector due to liberty given by the government in the media.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/434071
