PAKISTAN AND US SIGN AGREEMENT

ISLAMABAD, SEPTEMBER 27 SPA Representatives of the United States and Pakistan Thursday signed a revision to an existing agreement that will provide an additional $20.4 million in assistance to Pakistani law enforcement agencies in the areas of border security, law enforcement reform and counter narcotics programs. The agreement signed today builds on the successful, longstanding partnership between our two countries. It will have lasting and positive effects for the people of Pakistan, U.S. Ambassador Anne W. Patterson said in her remarks on the occasion, according to a U.S. Embassy Islamabad statement. The revision to the agreement was signed by Pattersonand Minister of State for Economic Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar. The revision to the Letter of Agreement signed will add additional $20.4 million to a total of $300 million in assistance provided to support Pakistani law enforcement agencies since 1982. This assistance will help strengthen Pakistani law enforcement agencies ability to implement effective border control regimes, build investigative capabilities of Pakistani police and sustain counter-narcotics efforts throughout the country.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/486264
