KABUL, Afghanistan, August 25, SPA -- A roadside bomb killed two Afghans guarding a convoy carrying supplies for NATO-ledforces, while eight suspected insurgents and a policeofficer died in fighting elsewhere in the country,officials said Saturday. Insurgents attacked the logistics convoy in southernKandahar province, a former Taliban stronghold, with aremote controlled bomb, said provincial police chief SayedAqa Saqib. Two guards were killed instantly, while threeothers were wounded, he said. Afghan soldiers in neighboring Helmand province shot andkilled two suspected Taliban fighters as they attempted toplant a roadside bomb, said police officer Ghulam Wali. Thebomb was later defused, he said. On Friday, insurgents attacked a police patrol in easternPaktika, sparking a gunbattle that killed six militants andone officer, the ministry of interior said in a statement.
