KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, July 14, SPA -- Police clashed with Taliban militants in southern Afghanistan, leaving six militants dead and two officers wounded, a provincial police chief said Saturday. The police surrounded the area where the Taliban weremeeting in Kandahar province's Arghandab district onFriday, said Sayed Agha Saqib, provincial police chief. The two-hour gunbattle that followed left six militantsdead and two officers wounded, Saqib said. The rest of the militants fled into the nearby mountains, he was quoted as saying by the Associated Press.
